Southern Point: Property Rights Must Come First
Share
On May 27th, we launched a petition asking the Village of Commercial Point to release Southern Point homeowners from a hidden mandatory annexation clause buried in the neighborhood’s recorded plat.
That clause obligates homeowners to sign annexation petitions without a vote or negotiation. It undermines property rights and opens the door to forced annexation. With development nearby already making Southern Point contiguous to the Village, the risk is real.
In just days, 240 residents signed the petition.
We formally presented it to both the Village Council of Commercial Point and the Scioto Township Trustees with a clear request:
-
Acknowledge the clause exists.
-
Publicly release homeowners from its obligation.
-
Commit to handling any future annexation only through voluntary processes, as outlined by Ohio law.
This issue is about fairness, transparency, and protecting families from being blindsided by decades-old fine print. It is not about being “for” or “against” annexation — it is about giving homeowners the right to make that decision themselves.
I care deeply about this community. I have done the research, knocked on doors, and spoken directly with the families impacted. I will not stop until this clause is removed from the plat and Southern Point homeowners are free from the threat of forced annexation.
As a candidate for Scioto Township Trustee, I will always stand up for property rights, demand transparency in growth decisions, and ensure residents have a voice before decisions are made — not after.
No forced annexation. No backroom deals. Let the people decide.
